Will It Hurt?

We make it as painless as possible. Through the latest minimally invasive techniques using laser-based periodontal treatment and ultrasonic piezosurgery we concentrate on reducing patient discomfort and reducing your healing time.

Do I Need X-Rays?

At Imperio we utilize digital radiograph technology.  We produced real time images at a higher magnification than traditional x-rays – without pinched cheeks!  The improved diagnostic  capabilities deliver 80% lower radiation doses and do not required the use of developing chemicals therefore is more environmentally conscious.

We can immediately preview & store images digitally.  Images can be viewed full screen and can be enhanced and zoomed in on which improves our ability to quickly diagnose, collaborate with dental professionals, submit insurance claim information and increase treatment planning accuracy.

What Will It Cost?

Since all patients are different, your periodontist must complete your examination before establishing your treatment planning and the fee for care. The fee for periodontal treatment can vary considerably depending on the type of problems and the complexity and length of treatment.
An approximate fee can usually be determined at the initial visit; but on occasion, some initial treatment or further diagnostics must be completed before the final treatment planning can be established. Our philosophy of practice is to treat as conservatively as possible to attain treatment goals.

Will My Insurance Cover The Cost?

Dental insurance policies often cover periodontal treatment. Please bring all medical and dental benefit information and cards to your examination appointment.

Upon request, we will submit a claim to predetermine your insurance benefits; however, this is not required by most plans.  Pre-determination of benefits does not guarantee payment – but it reduces the chances of your claim for reimbursement being limited or declined.

Will I Need Surgery?

Not everyone needs periodontal surgery. If treated early, gum disease can be controlled without surgery. We will make recommendations based on your individual situation. Our philosophy of practice is to treat as conservatively as possible to attain treatment goals of saving your teeth.

When Will I Go Back To My General Dentist?

Our office and your dentist will work closely together. If fillings and regular hygiene are needed your dentist can provide them.  Regular visits to your dentist are an important part of periodontal maintenance.

Can I book an appointment myself or will my dentist have to send in a referral first?

You are welcome to visit us without a dentist referral.  If you have a regular dentist it is a good idea to inform him that you would like to see us to keep them up to date on your dental health.

What is the difference between a Cosmetic Dentist and a Prosthodontist?

The Canadian Dental Association recognizes nine dental specialties, the CDA does not recognize ‘Cosmetic Dentistry’ as a specialty.

Prosthodontists are dental specialists in the treatment of missing teeth and the restoration of natural teeth.  This means that they have dedicated two to three additional years of education focussed in the field of restorative dentistry that provide them with a special understanding of the dynamics of creating a beautiful and lasting smile.

Our Prosthodontists are dedicated to continuous learning and share their knowledge through dentist mentorship, provide training to dentists and specialists in advanced dental procedures.

When should I visit my prosthodontist?

If you have one or more missing teeth; are interested in dental implants; wear dentures or partial dentures; want to improve the aesthetics of your teeth and smile; or have any concerns regarding your teeth.  Our team at Imperio is in a unique position to deal with most any dental concern as we have multiple dental specialties practicing a team approach in the assessment and treatment of your teeth and gums.

What are some of the procedures that it is beneficial seeing a Prosthodonist for?

Known as experts in dental restoration and rehabilitation, prosthodontists have extensive training in many procedures including: dentures, removable partial dentures, crowns, bridges, veneers, dental implants and implant surgery.

What is the All-on-4 Procedure?

The All-on-4 Procedure is a technique for replacing full set of teeth with a implants and a fixed prothesis.  In this technique 4 implants are place in the anterior region of the jaw – depending on optimum bone density this may vary slightly from patient to patient.  If the bone density is insufficient additional surgery may be required to shore up the implant placement site and ensure long term stability.  A fixed prosthesis of 12-14 teeth per arch is fitted to the implants resulting in a lasting natural looking smile.

What is laser dentistry?

Laser dentistry can be used for hard and soft tissue procedures. The lasers used are narrow beams of light energy that can penetrate the tissue, producing the ability to vaporize, remove or shape soft tissues such as the gums, cheeks and tongue. It can also penetrate hard tissue and remove decay.

Laser dentistry can be used to correct many problems from uncovering partially erupted wisdom teeth to removing lip pulls in orthodontic patients. Lasers can also obtain small tissue samples in biopsy procedures to detect lesions or potential tumors in the mouth.

Using laser dentistry as opposed to other forms of surgery does have its advantages. Lasers can control the amount of bleeding during the treatment and can sometimes remove gum tissue without causing bleeding. In laser dentistry, there may also be less swelling and pain following the surgery as the laser can seal blood vessels and nerve endings.
